Trying to Conceive

My Successful Pregnancy After 35

Trying to conceive and disheartened after months (or years) without success?

Want to know the best way to conceive a baby naturally even at an advanced age (35+)?

Wondering if pregnancy after infertility is possible?

Ready to get some help for infertility issues you’re having?

So was I!

And now at age 45 I have a beautiful infertility success story that includes two wonderful little boys, currently ages 3 and 5. I finally conceived my first son at age 39 after almost 2 years and 2 miscarriages. I then conceived again at age 41 with my second son. Fertility after miscarriage truly became a reality for me, and it can for you too!

My husband and I met and married later in life. I was 34 and he was 35. We wanted to wait a couple years before trying to get pregnant, although we knew our window of opportunity was a small one, as achieving pregnancy after 35 can be more difficult.

After a little over 2 years, we decided we needed to start trying to conceive a baby before we got any older. We were both 37 at the time.

After about 3 months of trying to conceive without success, I decided I needed to be more focused (I thought if we just had sex often that I would just get pregnant right away – Boy, was I in for a surprise!).

I visited an OB/GYN, seeking help for infertility issues to find out what our options were. I didn’t like her suggestions, because she wanted me to have an HSG (hysterosalpingogram), which is a procedure where they shoot blue dye up into your tubes to see if they are blocked.

I just didn’t like the thought of that and read about the potential cramping and side effects from it. I wanted to do things as naturally as possible to help increase our odds of pregnancy after infertility. I decided to find other options that were natural in case my tubes were blocked.

This OB/GYN did suggest having sex every other day from cycle day 10 through cycle day 18, which we began to implement right away. I also began to chart my basal body temperatures every month, which was very useful in helping me understand my ovulation cycles.

At about 7 months into our trying to conceive (TTC) efforts, I did become pregnant. This pregnancy, unfortunately, ended in an early loss they call a blighted ovum or empty sac pregnancy. Needless to say, I was devastated. I wanted to find answers.

Why did this happen? How could I prevent it from happening again? How could I improve my fertility after miscarriage? I again searched for answers.

I discovered that there’s no greater possibility of having a second miscarriage with the occurrence of one. In a few months, I was ready to start trying to conceive again and was more desperate than ever to be successful. Now I knew I could get pregnant. Thus, I spent the next 13 months reading everything I could find to help me conceive again.

My marriage was stressed, and my husband was tired of baby-making sex. It wasn’t his cup of tea to know each month when he was supposed to “perform,” and due to this stress many times we ended up fighting instead of working together to make a baby.

I did get pregnant again 13 months after the first miscarriage only to find out it was another blighted ovum. Against doctor’s advice, I decided not to wait a couple months before trying again. We tried again right away and conceived our beautiful son the very next month.

I was more cautious than ever during the first couple months of pregnancy and didn’t tell very many people until 12 weeks along. Once I heard his vigorous heart beat I was hopeful that this baby would be in it for the long term. He proved me right and has been the joy of our lives ever since.

This site was born out of my desire to help other women be able to have their own infertility success story. Throughout these pages, you will learn what I did to help improve my odds of conception each month.

The most important help for infertility I can share is timing and the quality of a woman’s cervical fluid. The quality of the man’s sperm are also very important. All couples are different, and each month of a woman’s cycle can be very different. The miracle of conception is a very complex, mind-boggling experience.

I go into the basics of the menstrual cycle here to show you how conception occurs. This is an important foundation for getting the timing right when trying to conceive.

Timing intercourse around ovulation is detailed here with methods of ovulation detection that I used explained including BBT charting and ovulation predictor kits.

Fertility herbs were very important for me as an “advanced age” woman trying to conceive. I utilized a number of them to help tone my uterus and balance my hormones.

Maca was very instrumental in helping me to get pregnant and stay pregnant. Maca is a very powerful superfood that is purported to improve egg quality. Since older women have older eggs, I believe improving egg quality is a major key to pregnancy after 35.
