My Trying to Conceive Success Story

Disheartened after months (or years) of trying to conceive without success?

Want to conceive naturally even at an advanced age (35+)?

Wondering if pregnancy after 35 is possible?

Ready for some fresh solutions?

So was I.

And now at age 40 I have a beautiful 1-year-old son, having finally conceived at age 39 after almost 2 years and 2 miscarriages.

My husband and I met and married later in life. I was 34 and he was 35. We wanted to wait a couple years before trying to get pregnant, although we knew our window of opportunity was a small one. After a little over 2 years, we decided we needed to start trying to conceive before we got any older. We were both 37 at the time.

After about 3 months of trying to conceive without success, I decided I needed to be more focused (I thought if we just had sex often that I would just get pregnant right away). I visited an OB/GYN, but I didn't like her suggestions because she wanted me to have an HSG (hysterosalpingogram), which is a procedure where they shoot blue dye up into your tubes to see if they are blocked. I just didn't like the thought of that and read about the potential cramping and side effects from it. I wanted to do things as naturally as possible. I decided to find other options that were natural in case my tubes were blocked.

This OB/GYN did suggest having sex every other day from cycle day 10 through cycle day 18, which we began to implement right away. I also began to chart my basal body temperatures every month, which was very useful in helping me understand my ovulation pattern.

At about 7 months into our trying to conceive (TTC) efforts, I did become pregnant. This pregnancy, unfortunately, ended in an early loss they call a blighted ovum or empty sac pregnancy. Needless to say, I was devastated. I wanted to find answers. Why did this happen? How could I prevent it from happening again? I again searched for answers. I discovered that there's no greater possibility of having a second miscarriage with the occurrence of one.

In a few months, I was ready to start trying to conceive again and was more desperate than ever to be successful. Now I knew I could get pregnant. Thus, I spent the next 13 months reading everything I could find to help me conceive again. My marriage was stressed, and my husband was tired of baby-making sex. It wasn't his cup of tea to know each month when he was supposed to "perform," and due to this stress many times we ended up fighting instead of working together to make a baby.

I did get pregnant again in August of 2005 only to find out it was another blighted ovum. Against doctor's advice, I decided not to wait a couple months before trying again. We tried again right away and conceived our beautiful son. I was more cautious than ever during the first couple months of pregnancy and didn't tell very many people until 12 weeks. Once I heard his vigorous heart beat I was hopeful that this baby would be in it for the long term. He proved me right and has been the joy of our lives ever since.

I would like to share with you what I did to help improve my odds of conceiving naturally. Pregnancy after 35 truly is possible.
