Pregnancy at 41
by Maggie
I stumbled on this website and wanted to quickly share my story.
When I was 38, I started to bleed profusely. 90 days of heavy bleeding, 2 OB/GYNs, and several procedures later, I finally went to a reproductive endocrinologist, and he diagnosed a large deteriorating fibroid. This was removed via C-section, and the doc did some additional female testing while I was there (dye test, cavity, etc).
Several years later, at the age of 41, my husband and I were just starting to talk about getting pregnant.
But I already was and didn't know it!
We had our daughter in Sept 2006 when was 42. Granted, the odds are slight that one conceives naturally at 41, but I believe the previous procedures made it that much easier to conceive, because there were no other stumbling blocks - just the age factor.
We have tried to conceive a second child over the last 18 months. I miscarried in April 2008, and again (blighted ovum) in Dec 2008.
I am now 45 and we continue to try but now with the help of Clomid/Gonal/Ovidrel. This is month 2, and I am starting to believe that my daughter was simply a miracle and I should just be happy that I was able to have a child.
All of my levels are great for 45 but it's simply genetics at this point and the odds are signifcantly lower at 45 than at 41.
I DO think that women should be positive and continue to try despite the so-called advanced years - miracles do happen....my daughter is proof.
