Help For Infertility

by Ashley
(West Virginia)

I'll be 22 in August, and me and my husband have been trying to have a baby for a year and a half. We tried fertility monitoring, going 3 to 5 days without sex, and desparately (standing on my head). It ended up being a disappointment every time.

We went and had his sperm count checked, and it came back above normal, so then I knew it was me.

I made an appointment to have an HSG done to see if my tubes we open. When we sat down with the doctor, he told me they were the worst he'd seen. I cried for months until I found a great doctor who did a laparoscopic surgery on me. She said I had a huge cyst on my left ovary and endometriosis, but my tubes were normal again after that.

Me and my husband are still having trouble getting pregnant, and I was hoping you had some advice for me.

Ashley,

Since the doctor says that your tubes are now normal, it's likely that you'll be able to conceive. It can still take quite a few months to conceive even when all things are normal.

You didn't say how long you've been trying since you had the surgery, but it seems like that should be considered the starting point for you. Give yourself some time and realize that it could take 6 months to a year of concentrated effort, and try to make it fun.

Get the timing of intercourse as accurate as possible each month, making love 2 to 3 times leading up to ovulation. If you're pretty sure when you're ovulating, that will help you get the timing right.

Then just keep yourself as healthy as possible and try not get too stressed over it all (I know it's very hard!).

Please keep us all informed!
