Claire's Miscarriage

by Claire
(United Kingdom)

I was over the moon seeing the bright blue cross appearing on the pregnancy test. I took 3, and they all came up positive. We'd been trying 2 years as it was and thought I might never become pregnant, so the actual realisation that I finally was took my breath away. Anyway, the next day I made an appointment to see the doctor. She didn't do a pregnancy test, as she said I obviously was pregnant, having done 3 home tests. She gave me some leaflets and told me to book an appointment with the midwife. She worked out that I was about 5 weeks. I was so excited and told my family and close friends, and they were all really happy for us.

In the sixth week I started experiencing cramps and bleeding and made an appointment to see the doctor straight away. He wanted to rule out an ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage, so I had to do a urine sample. He tested it and then booked an appointment at the hospital for me for the next morning. When I got to the hospital I did another urine test, and the midwife checked to see if my uterus was still closed. I was still bleeding quite heavily, so doing this wasn't very comfortable or nice. She reassured me that the bleeding was coming from below the uterus, that the uterus was still closed, and I wasn't having an ectopic pregnancy. She also said she thought I might be having a threatened miscarriage, but only to worry if the bleeding got any heavier over the next few days. She also took some blood tests.

The bleeding stopped after a few days, so I was happy. My blood tests were fine too. When I went for my scan a month later due to me bleeding again, they said I must have miscarried last month, as the bleeding I was experiencing now was my period. They even had to do another blood test at the scan to check my hormone level, so I had to wait all day to find out if what they saw on the scan was a sac or not.

They rang and said it was a blood clot which would eventually go with my period this month. She sed that's why I might be a bit heavier than normal.

So for a month they left me to think I was pregnant. I had even seen my midwife in that time too, and she had given me my blue bag and lots of blood tests for anemia. etc.

I'm absolutely gutted! Why didn't they tell me sooner instead of another month down the line? I would have been ten weeks today.

I'm over the crying stage now and want to move on. I'm even thinking about trying again now after my period. I know it's pretty soon, but now that I've had that feeling of being a mum I want that feeling back.
