Acupuncture For Infertility

Many believe that using acupuncture for infertility is very beneficial for increasing their chances of getting pregnant.

A growing number of women who are not able to get pregnant using more conventional methods are turning to acupuncture to increase their fertility and chances of conception.

Acupuncture helps to increase blood flow to the reproductive organs and to stabilize hormone levels, which in turn increases ovarian function in women and sperm production in men.

Acupuncture utilizes tiny needle applications to the bottoms of the feet, behind the ears, near genital organs, and on the palms of the hands to get relief from infertility. Chinese herbal medicines are also typically used along with these treatments to aid in the replenishing of the kidneys.

Acupuncture is used for infertility most commonly when a couple is having functional issues, like fluctuating ovulation or erectile dysfunction. Sometimes acupuncture is used as a supplemental procedure for in vitro fertilization, which can help a woman to relax her uterus during the embryo transfer process.

Studies on acupuncture and fertility have shown that the success rate of in vitro fertilization when using acupuncture went up by 16%, and miscarriages were reduced by 12% in women receiving in vitro fertilization.

You may ask, "What's it like to go through an acupuncture treatment?"

Acupuncture is a pretty painless procedure, and side effects are pretty rare. The most common negative events reported include infections, minor bleeding at the insertion site, and needles breaking beneath the skin. These risks are greatly reduced if you seek out a licensed and experienced professional who has undergone the required 2000 to 3000 hours of training and has passed the required board exam.

Acupuncture treatment can be a lengthy process. Typically, about 12 individual consultations are required, each about an hour in length and occurring weekly. During each appointment, a physical examination is also done and any issues that have come up since the last appointment will be discussed.

"Is acupuncture right for me?"

Using acupuncture for infertility is rapidly gaining acceptance. Although still very controversial, and many times its effectiveness is questioned by doctors, it seems to work well for many couples, and it certainly doesn't hurt anything to try it. For many couples who have been trying to conceive a child without success, using acupuncture to increase their fertility may be just the addition to their regimen that they need to finally conceive.
